Every summer for the last 86 years Santa Barbara has taken 5 days to celebrate its rich Mexican and Spanish heritage. This annual celebration in known as Old Spanish Day Fiesta. 2010 will be no different as the Fiesta will begin on August 4th and continue until August 8th.
There will be several food vendors as well as opportunities to participate in riding and roping events. Don’t miss the “La Fiesta Pequena” or “The Little Fiesta” which officially opens Old Spanish Days on the steps of the Mission Santa Barbara.
Throughout the week there are many special features and events. El Mercado de la Guerra, offers shopping, entertainment, dancing and food in De La Guerra Plaza. El Mercado del Norte located in MacKenzie Park at Las Positas and State Streets is filled with family fun. Carnival rides and attractions and daily entertainment featuring music and dance are what this area is about.
Celebración de los Dignatarios features delicious appetizers and wines presented by local restaurants and wineries. Dance to the exciting sounds of Soul City Survivors. Las Noches de Ronda or“Nights of Gaiety is held at Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden. A splendid variety show of music, singing, fiery Flamenco from Spain, and vivid Folklórico dances from many regions of Mexico.
